This time I will show how to add a self-hosted e-mail account in Outlook.
I am using Outlook 2016 and Jaws 18 for this demonstration.
The instructions below are suitable for blind people using Windows 10 machines and Jaws screen reader.
I already have my mail server details from my hosting provider, and the start of adding this new account is not in Outlook interface, but from Windows Control Panel.
Follow the steps below in order to perform this task:
1. Press Windows key in order to open search box
2. . Type control panel and press enter
3. A new search box is opened, but Jaws announce nothing.
4. Type mail end press enter
5. In the e-mail tab press tab again to go to the toolbar where you press spacebar on new button.
6. Choose from the new opened window add manually additional mail servers.
7. . Start fill in the form all the information required, like name, e-mail address, incoming and outgoing mail server, password, etc then tab again to more settings button.
8. A new window with 3 tabs is opened: general, Outgoing server and Advance. Navigate with control tab to Outgoing server and tick the box my outgoing mail server require authentication.
9. Control tab again to go to advance and put the right port numbers for incoming and outgoing servers. It is important to know what kind of connection you set up, like secured or none. From each section choose the relevant type of encryption. In my example I have selected ssl/tls encryption for both incoming and outgoing.
10. Navigate with tab key till next button and wait for testing.
11. If things are set up properly a message will come with the test results, and a close button will be on focus. Going with tab around you can see a list box with two bits of info, saying a test e-mail was sent.
pressing close button Outlook will report “We have all the information required. Your e-mail account has been set up properly and you are ready to use it.”.
12. Also, before navigating to finish button using tab key it is a checkbox to tick in case you wish to receive a link on your mobile phone pointing you to App Store or Google Play in order to download Outlook app for mobile.
When you press enter on finish button the wizard will be closed and the focus will be back to control panel. Alt F4 to close all, and then open Outlook to see the results.
If no error displayed, and the test e-mail message is in your new e-mail folder, everything is right.
If errors are displayed probably you need to review your e-mail settings.
As you probably noticed, I have not opened Outlook in order to add the account, but the add account wizard of Outlook was opened by Windows and closed when things were done properly.
Hope to help this, but in case of having issues try to listen first my audio demonstration from the podcast episode below and then use the comments form to ask for help. Please use the contact details provided in the end of podcast.
